A language for which a DFA exists is a ________.

  1. (A) Regular language
  2. (B) Non-regular language
  3. (C) Any language
  4. (D) Cannot be said

Answer: (A) Regular language. Kleene: DFA ⇔ regular language.

Let u = '1101', v = '0001'; then uv = 11010001 and vu = 00011101. What is the identity element for strings?

  1. (A) u⁻¹
  2. (B) v⁻¹
  3. (C) u⁻¹v⁻¹
  4. (D) ε

Answer: (D) ε. εw = wε = w for every string w.

For a DFA accepting binary numbers whose decimal equivalent is divisible by 3, what are all the possible remainders?

  1. (A) 0
  2. (B) 0, 2
  3. (C) 0, 1, 2
  4. (D) 0, 1, 2, 3

Answer: (C) 0, 1, 2. Remainders mod 3 → 3 states.
